LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, December 5, 2011: The ultimate FIG event of this calendar year, the Grand Prix Ostrava, concluded the Challenge Cup season in Artistic Gymnastics Saturday.
In the Women’s competition, Israel’s Valeriia Maksiuta continued with the same steady performances she’s given throughout the season with two more titles on Vault and Balance Beam, and adding a Bronze on Floor. Marta Pihan-Kulesza of Poland and Angelina Kysla of Ukraine prevailed on Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise respectively, repeating their qualifying rankings. And dropping down a place from the qualifying rounds, the host country’s Kristyna Palesova won Bronze on Uneven Bars.
Top qualifiers Kieran Behan of Ireland (Floor Exercise), Saso Bertoncelj of Slovenia (Pommel Horse) and Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece (Still Rings) all came out on top in Saturday’s Men’s Finals. Having qualified in fourth position, Belarusian Andrey Likhovitskiy tied with Behan for first place on Floor.
Fabian Gonzalez (ESP) won the title on Vault, Hiroyuki Imai (JPN) on Parallel Bars and Aliaksandr Tsarevich (BLR) prevailed on Horizontal Bar, while the Czech Republic’s Martin Konecny garnered Silver on the latter.

After events in Cottbus (GER), Doha (QAT), Ghent (BEL), Maribor (SLO) and Osijek (CRO), Ostrava was the sixth Challenge Cup this year.
In 2012, Challenge Cups will take place on March 22 – 25 in Cottbus (GER), March 28 – 30 in Doha (QAT), April 20 – 22 in Maribor (SLO), April 27 – 29 in Osijek (CRO), June 9 – 10 in Ghent and November 23 – 24 in Ostrava (CZE).
About 2011 FIG Challenge Cup Series in Artistic Gymnastics
Starting in 2011, the former FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cups of the category B will run under the label “FIG Challenge Cup” and represent an open series. This year, all FIG Challenge Cups stage Individual Apparatus Finals.
Prize money of 25,000 CHF will be attributed at each event.
In 2011, FIG Challenge Cups with a maximum of two participating gymnasts per country and apparatus will take place on March 11 – 13 in Cottbus (GER), March 30 – April 1 in Doha (QAT), September 3 – 4 in Ghent (BEL), September 23 – 25 in Maribor (SLO), November 4 – 6 in Osijek (CRO) and December 1 -3 in Ostrava (CZE).
Separate World Ranking lists will be established for C III, six for Men and four for Women. The competitions feature Qualifications and Finals, with the best four gymnasts per apparatus from Qualifications proceeding to the final rounds. An additional one wild card per Men’s and Women’s competition is allowed in the event that the host federation fails to qualify for the Finals.
